Conventional couriers thinking out of the personal contact box

With door-step delivery outfits finding their business models increasingly challenged by disruptive technologies that eliminate personal contact, conventional couriers are bargaining on holding onto market share through clever ID verification systems.

This comes as competitive concepts like person-less locker boxes are becoming ever more popular, especially in urban areas where the infection rate of Covid-19 has drawn a hard line under the necessity for social distancing.

One platform that believes it could assist couriers by ruling out the need for someone to sign for delivery is UK platform provider Nuggets.

Based on block-chain protection of digitally stored personal information, recipients of goods have their smart phones pinged as a courier approaches.

Once all the necessary biometric verification has been done, the last mile can be completed with minimal contact required – if any.

According to Nuggets CEO Alastair Johnston, Nuggets has seen a 60-80% increase in interest.
