The Port of Cape

Town is finalising

the appointment of a

specialist consultant

to help plot the future

growth of the Western

Cape facility.

According to port

planner Hlamalani

Phephenyane, no

significant changes will be

made to the layout of the

port in the short term, but

rationalising the current

layout remains a priority.

“The port is land

constrained and so we

have to maximise that

which is available,” she

told exporters during a

visit to the port recently.

“We are in the final

process of appointing a

specialist to assist us in

this process. We are also

engaging robustly with

the marketplace and the

port operators to ensure

that we are maximising

capacity and that the

plans for the future are

appropriate and in line

with what is required.”

She said the specialist

would also be looking

at the development of

160ha of the Culemborg

site for back-of-port

commercial logistics.
