Compliance challenge

According to the Department of Trade and Industry, one of the critical challenges around B-BBEE is non-compliance, with more than 75% of the private sector currently not complying with the B-BBEE Codes of Good Practice. According to Brad Green, executive director of B1SA, a provider of B-BBEE management services and technology solutions, the lack of a firm mandate continues to hamper true empowerment in the country. “B-BBEE is only compulsory for the State and its associated enterprises and although many private companies have embraced the process and come on board, it is still only voluntary.”
