ALAN PEAT THERE IS a serious lack of warehousing specialising in hazardous cargoes in the portside and central Durban area, according to Ronald Naidoo, CEO of Compass Logistics. So much so that his company has been examining the possibility of becoming involved in this singular storage function. “It needs special storage facilities,” said Naidoo, “and there is just not sufficient warehousing of this type in the Durban area.” This statement stemmed from the company looking at facilitating something for a client, and doing a survey of what sort of specialised warehousing was available. There was nothing compatible, and Compass is now having to look outside the central area of the city. However, the company finds no problem with its general warehousing, Naidoo told FTW, which it is sub-contracting to specialists in the field to handle the goods that pass through Compass’s books. His logistics operation specialises in air transport.
