CCS Logistics, the largest cold store operator in Africa, has added several new services to its expanding portfolio.
Ina Botha, the company’s supply chain director, told FTW that the company – which owns and operates eleven refrigerated warehouse facilities in the major centres and harbours of South Africa, Namibia and Angola – now also offered blast freezing facilities and container movement to and from the various ports.
“In the near future our services will be expanded to include container consolidation and cross docking as well as clearing and forwarding capabilities,” she said, adding that the value of a service all under one roof allowed for added flexibility while minimising the risk of spoiling products.
Emphasising the importance of managing temperature throughout the supply chain to maintain product quality, Botha said that CSS Logistics prioritised investment in quality equipment to ensure consistent temperature control throughout the process.
“We have a proactive approach to maintenance with online temperature monitoring systems,” she said.
CSS’s cold store facilities were considered some of the most advanced in southern Africa, capable of storing product at temperatures from ambient to as low as minus 60 degrees – making it suitable for poultry, fish, meat, vegetables, dairy, margarine and fruit, she added.
“Current CCS cold storage capacity across South Africa is 117 000 tons, with an additional 15 000 tons in Walvis Bay in Namibia and 3 000 tons in Luanda, Angola. Scalability across the geographical area gives customers the flexibility to store product close to their markets,” said Botha.
CCS has also extended its service offering to the market through its On-line Linebooker transport bidding platform.
This connects customers and transporters while facilitating short- and long-distance transport and cross-border transport across all temperature categories.
