CMA CGM has signed a strategic partnership agreement with the Government of Kenya to support the development of transport and logistics infrastructure, including port capacity, inland logistics and freight management.
The agreement was signed during the Africa Forward Summit, being held in Nairobi this week from May11-12, in the presence of French President Emmanuel Macron and Kenyan President William Ruto.
The partnership will explore joint investment in Kenyan logistics and port infrastructure to support growing supply chain flows into and out of East and Central Africa and strengthen the region’s links to global trade routes, CMA CGM said.
CMA CGM has operated in Kenya since 2005, connecting Mombasa and Lamu to global markets and inland corridors across East Africa. The agreement places Kenya within the group’s wider African network, where it is involved in the operation and development of nine container terminals.
The group said its longer-term African strategy was focused on securing port and inland capacity, developing regional hubs, integrating logistics services and decarbonising transport chains.
Its current projects include the expansion of Kribi Container Terminal in Cameroon, the development of Lekki Deep Sea Port in Nigeria, a planned deep-water terminal in Pointe-Noire in the Republic of Congo, the Nador West Med terminal in Morocco, container capacity expansion at Alexandria’s TMT terminal and participation in the Red Sea Container Terminal in Sokhna.
Beyond port infrastructure, CMA CGM said it was developing multimodal corridors through CEVA Logistics, combining maritime, rail and road transport to connect ports more efficiently to inland markets and improve reliability, transit times and logistics performance.
