That’s the now 10-years-old JCL Cargo International, which has offices in Shenzhen (a main light industrial centre in Mainland China) and Hong Kong.
This is in addition to its SA offices, sited in Johannesburg and Durban - with the latter concentrating mostly on the road transportation of containers to Gauteng.
“We focus on imports and exports - by both sea and air - to and from Africa,” said director Lisa Chan.
Landside, JCL does the road transportation of both less-than container load (LCL) and full container load (FCL) deliveries of general goods.
“We also consult on trade between SA and China,” said Chan. “We know the commodity needs from both sides and are specialists in advising those companies in SA that want to market goods in China.”
And China is a rapidly growing trade market.
Two fast growing exports from SA to China Chan noted as marble and minerals.
“In imports from China,” she said, “light industrial products are growing very fast, and there are noticeable increases in volumes.”
