With Zimbabwe having welcomed Chinese leader Xi Jinping for what the local rags see as an “historic” visit starting today (Tuesday), it’ll be interesting to see what transpires in the way of Chinese-backed projects in that country.
It’s rich in minerals, and China has the world’s biggest demand. And Zim’s infrastructure is thoroughly dilapidated. Add those two together, and we might see some more of China’s ‘Silk Road’ philosophy coming into play, with more of Chinese financing/building expertise going into things like railway, road and energy projects.
All of which would smooth the outflow of Zimbabwe products, and no doubt do China no harm in doing deals in that country.
Who knows? Wait and see.
