CHINA HAS cut its overall import tariff level from the current 16.4 % to 15.3%, effective January 1.
The tariff reduction covers 3 462 imported items, accounting for 49% of the total.
The reduction means that China has fulfilled the commitment made by President Jiang Zemin at the fourth informal summit of APEC leaders in 1996 to cut the country's overall tariff level to about 15% by 2000.
