For neutral groupage operator CFR Freight, volumes to Mozambique have increased dramatically over the past year, according to CEO Peter Schmidt-Löff ler. The company has singled out Africa as a market of significant potential and Mozambique is already taking a leading role in its African safari. “We’re seeing a lot of transhipment cargo from Europe hubbing in Maputo and have the advantage of a very active global partner in the East Africa market,” said Schmidt- Löff ler. “Hamburg-based SACO Shipping, which is part of the World Wide Alliance, offers regular direct services from Europe to East Africa which enables us to service the entire East African coast, including Mozambique.” CFR offers regular direct services to Maputo, serving Beira, Nacala and Pemba. And against a background of growing business in the country, and as more and more shipping lines introduce direct services to the likes of Beira, Nacala and Pemba, Schmidt- Löff ler is confident that they could be served on a direct basis in the near future. CFR’s airfreight division also has its focus firmly fixed on the continent. “Airfreight exports to Mozambique and the rest of Africa remain high priority,” says airfreight general manager Stephen Bishop. “We’re developing our network within Africa so that we can meet the DAP (delivered at place) and DDP (delivered duty paid) requirements of our customers. “As always there is an ongoing focus on improving our buy rates and competitiveness in these markets.” INSERT & CAPTION 1 We're seeing a lot of transhipment cargo from Europe hubbing in Maputo and have the advantage of a very active global partner in the East Africa market. – Peter Schmidt-Löffler INSERT & CAPTION 2 Airfreight exports to Mozambique and the rest of Africa remain high priority. – Stephen Bishop
