Cargocare Freight Services has opened a new 2 360- sqm warehouse which enables it to store anything from small cosmetic items to big bulk shipments. “The warehouse, which opened last month, has given us the opportunity to offer a full-spectrum logistics service and give our customers the flexibility and transparency they need,” said operations manager Brian van Niekerk. He told FTW that the company had previously outsourced its warehousing component but saw the need to offer a full-service facility, which includes picking and packing, management of stock levels and distribution. When we moved our offices to Tunney Ridge near the OR Tambo International Airport, it allowed us to build our new warehouse with a reporting system which also allows our customers to track the status of their stock online,” said Van Niekerk. He noted that one of the biggest challenges was setting up a quality warehousing system which was easy to use, offered flexibility and enabled the company and its customers to become more competitive by receiving up-to-date information that shapes their business decisions. “We further boost their competitiveness by eliminating their worries about security of stock, cutting down on their human resources costs and the labour issues associated with needing more technical and security staff,” said Van Niekerk. The warehouse is also temperature managed to accommodate products such as pharmaceuticals, is fire-guarded and has 24/7 closed circuit television monitoring, he said, adding that the facility has strong external and internal security features such as fencing and guards. “We also offer caging for high-value goods that are vulnerable to pilferage,” he said.
