Gaining a firm foothold in the Botswana market, logistics solutions provider Cargo Carriers has signed a three-year contract with Bulk Mining Explosives (BME) for the delivery of high-energy fuel (HEF) to Basetho mine in Maun A division of the Omnia Group, BME supplies explosives for open pit mining and the quarrying industry, and has previously worked with Cargo Carriers in running product from Sasolburg to Namibia. Differing legislation in each of the countries was one of the challenges to be overcome, said Cargo Carriers marketing director Andre van Vuuren. “The two countries define high energy fuel differently, and transporting between the two countries requires the vehicles to be fully compliant with both countries’ sets of legislation. “The vehicles will be equipped with specifically designed 23 000-litre mild steel tankers that accommodate HEF in line with both sets of legislation. They will also be fitted with a unique pumping system (a requirement of the Botswana Explosives Act) in order to lawfully offload the product at the mine,” he said. In transporting the HEF to the Basetho mine, Cargo Carriers will be making a round trip of over 2 300km.
