The crash in the global auto industry has had an equally immense impact on the freight industry, according to Yeagam Reddy of Benavani Freight – which has the vehicle transport operation, Motorlog, as a subsidiary. Asked whether the auto industry downturn had had a significant effect on this business, Reddy said: “Significant is not the word. Drastic is more like it.” It’s especially true of overborder movement of second-hand automobiles, he added. “It’s a simple formula.” Reddy told FTW. “Nobody is buying copper and minerals in Africa, so there’s no money, so there are no car sales.”
