SHIPPING COMPANIES are strategically looking at
controlling their containers by opening their own depots, says SACD Cape Town's regional director, Ross Buchanan. MSC and Maersk Sealand are prime examples of this trend.
For SACD to continue in this sector of the depot business we are looking at leasing companies, so as to remain a multi-user facility rather than become aligned with one shipping company, says Buchanan.
SACD Cape Town will
continue to specialise in
the refrigerated container industry and has become a service centre for carrier equipment.
According to Buchanan December saw a record number of empty boxes -
8 000 at one stage - at SACD's main Cape Town depot.
