Cape moves up fast in convention centre ranks

THE CAPE Town International Convention Centre is rapidly moving through the ranks in its goal to become one of the world’s Top Ten. In just three years the CTICC has moved from 47th to 29th position in the International Congress Association ratings, hosting 49 international events against Durban, ranked 168th with seven international conventions and Pretoria, ranked 209th with five international events. Top conference city in the world is Vienna with 147 international conventions, followed by Paris with 130 and Singapore with 127. As a country, South Africa hosted 64 international conventions last year, placing it 31st in the international ranking. After hosting the International Diabetic Federation with its 12 700 delegates last December, the CTICC has already secured bookings up to 2014 for a number of events exceeding 10 000 delegates.
