A CONTRACT FOR the restructuring of the quality control of Mozambique's Civil Aviation Authority has been awarded to the Aeronautics and Space Division of Bureau Veritas.
The contract covers two phases, the first a four-month assessment period and the second covering the following eight to nine months when the work will take place.
We expect to have it all completed by mid-1999, says Stephane Sakoschek, BV's regional manager of marketing and sales for southern and East Africa.
We were delighted to get the contract after tendering for it, as it gives us a solid foot in the door in Mozambique. We will now be developing our quality control operations in other fields, such as international trade inspections, civil engineering and industrial projects in the country.
BV also intend establishing themselves as a certification body in Mozambique, says Sakoschek, who supervised the opening of the company's office in Maputo in mid-April.
We had two Portuguese-speaking staff members in our Johannesburg office, and they have been transferred to Maputo to handle operations down there.
