There have been mixed reactions from labour, business, and economists since the announcement by Public Enterprises Minister, Pravin Gordhan, that Nampak CEO Andre de Ruyter has been appointed to head up Eskom.
However, Business Unity South Africa (Busa) has described the appointment as an important step to stabilising the management, operations, and finances of the utility and is confident that he is the best person for this challenging position.
Busa described De Ruyter as a South African with extensive experience in the energy industry.
“His willingness to accept the position in these trying times and under difficult conditions, speaks to his commitment to the country,” said a Busa spokesperson.
“He can count on the support of Busa as he seeks to undo years of mismanagement and corruption and turn the company into a sustainable business that is able to provide the country with the reliable power supply it needs for inclusive economic growth.”
