MARK JACKSON-MOSS AIRFREIGHT EXPORTS are on the rise. Volumes have increased tenfold in the past five months, says Margrit Wolff, MD of Buffalo Freight Systems, commenting on the recent resurgence of exports following “the strengthened rand’s hiatus” of last year. “Demand for large cargo with high revenues has got the airlines interested, and exports to the UK, Israel, Hong Kong, India and Saudi nations have been phenomenal.” Buffalo Freight is smiling on the back of increased support from its international agents, Wolff adds. The company has developed a workable strategy to circumvent congestion in and around OR Tambo International Airport, but deliveries are still compromised by congestion on Gauteng’s straining infrastructure. Wolff adds: “We are going to choke ourselves to death.” Internally, Buffalo Freight has reorganised its fleet with the purchase of a number of new, larger trucks. The company has also been departmentalised and is focusing on multiskilling to achieve its personalised customer service approach, says Wolff. She believes the increased transparency within Customs is a great asset to improved efficiency in the industry.
