Zambia identified as strategic growth area Kevin Mayhew BRIDGE SHIPPING (Zambia)- the over border office of Bridge Shipping in South Africa – has further entrenched its presence with the opening of an office in Ndola on the Zambian Copperbelt. Marketing manager of Bridge Shipping, Donovan Bisset, says its Zambian operations, established in 2001, have experienced rapid growth in line with the sustained investment that the country has attracted in recent years Bridge Shipping has been extensively involved throughout southern Africa for over 20 years and has identified Zambia as a strategic growth area. “Our expansion has been driven by our customer base which has also chosen Zambia as an investor-friendly environment. Our existing infrastructure, comprising an office in Lusaka, has been bolstered by the recent opening of a second office with warehouse facilities in Ndola. “The Copperbelt office has over 9000 m2 of covered warehouse space along with its own rail sidings and weighing facilities,” Bisset said. “Aside from our traditional business, which was primarily focused on the movement of agricultural commodities, Bridge Shipping has also started specialising in metal and mineral commodities. “The abundance of these resources that are being mined in the southern Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) and northern Zambia meant that a presence in the Copperbelt was certainly required by Bridge Shipping,” he concluded.
