Breaking news: Hurricane Matthew makes landfall

Hurricane Matthew has made landfall in south Florida. The National Hurricane Center has issued an advisory saying that flooding is expected in the area. Central and eastern Cuba are also likely to experience flash floods and mudslides.

According to Delta Air Lines’ official Twitter account, around 120 flights have been cancelled and the airline has issued a travel waiver for the affected flights. Passengers on cancelled or significantly delayed flights are entitled to a refund. Passengers can also make a one-time change to their ticket without being charged a fee. For more information about which flights are affected, visit Delta’s website.

The SAA regional office for the Americas in Fort Lauderdale is closed today, October 6, and possibly tomorrow, October 7, as a result of Hurricane Matthew.

The airline has issued a travel advisory for travel agents who may elect to voluntarily change their customers’ travel plans to avoid potential disruption due to the storm. Ticketed passengers on SAA-operated flights to or from New York’s JFK International Airport or Washington, DC’s Dulles International Airport may change their date of travel with change fees waived. Changes can be made until October 9 for travel up to and including October 11. Routes can be changed only if travel is via JFK or Dulles. For more information, visit www.flysaa.com
