Botswana looks to establish economic zones to boost exports

The proposed Special Economic Zones Bill No 10 of 2015 was tabled in parliament last week, according to the country’s Botswana Daily News publication.

Sefhare-Ramokgonami MP, Dorcas Makgato, reportedly said the creation of special economic zones would expedite industries’ competitiveness in the global market and strengthen the country's export earnings.

According to her, boosted revenue would also help finance the development of infrastructure such as road networks.

Mochudi East MP, Isaac Davids, expressed concern that the shortage of water and power in the country could derail the creation of special economic zones in the country.
