Boeing plans radical new concept

IN THE high-stakes war for civilian air supremacy, Boeing, in alliance with the NASA Langley Research Centre, has a radical blended-wing plane on the drawing boards – a 1 000 passenger jet which could be opposition for the 555-seat Airbus A380. The US plane maker has not suggested any starting date for this Boeing 797 concept plane, not even stating whether the project will get off the ground. But the mammoth jet liner has a lot of design and operational features in its favour if it ever does take off. According to information released to FTW on the Internet, the giant will have a wing span of 265 feet compared to the Boeing 747’s 211 ft, but is still designed to fit within the newly created 262-feet-wide terminals used for the Airbus A380.
