RAY SMUTS TEAM GLOBAL Force International can truly lay claim to a base as solid as mother’s home-made apple pie, having ‘taken the plunge’ in somewhat difficult times, yet making the grade in the process. With a solid 2005 behind it and confident of an even more lucrative 2006, the Cape Town company, specialising in freight forwarding, sea, airfreight imports and exports and customs clearing, has not only built an international network of agents, preferably of its own size, but embraced the vision of growth while remaining small and solid. “We are small, smart and a true Black Economic Empowerment company,” asserts MD Jöns Hagenah. Hagenah recalls that after he and colleague Ismail Price had worked for international companies for most of their lives, Team Global Force International became a reality on March 1, 2002, “taking the plunge” with its own capital and with help from the then BOE bank. (The deal was based on a 50/50 shareholding from the outset). Four months later former colleague Felicia Abrahams came on board followed by three young men straight from the matric bench, who have benefited from in-house training programmes since joining the team at the start.
