There has been wholehearted support expressed for the newly started construction of the dual carriageway extension on Bayhead Road – the sole road access to the Port of Durban’s two major container terminals, and the major dry bulk and oil terminals at Island View. Said Kevin Martin, MD of Freightliner Transport and chairman of the Durban harbour carriers’ section of the SA Association of Freight Forwarders (Saaff): “If I look at the existing road and picture what will be there in just 19 months’ time, what else could I be but delighted? “Dual carriageway all the way, and staging areas to hold the overflow of vehicles waiting to get into Pier 1 or the Island View bulk terminals. What a benefit.” Paul Rayner, MD of container haulier, DTB Cartage, commented: “There’s always been a lot of congestion on that road section leading into Pier 1 and the Island View terminals – and the thought of those staging areas for their excess vehicles goes a long way to removing this problem.”
Bayhead developments get resounding thumbs up
