Asia-Europe rates jump

After what the press have been calling “the great rates rot” freight rates have suddenly started to recover on both the Asia-north Europe and Asia-Mediterranean trades.

The carriers have finally succeeded with general rates increases (GRIs) after these have continually failed to take in all the recent attempts to impose them.

Things brightened as Asia-Europe rates on the Shanghai containerised freight index (SCFI) jumped to nearly US$600.
