Private sector gets involved
ALLIANCE AIR is to be relaunched. The service, which flew up the east coast of Africa from Johannesburg to Uganda and then on to London, was suspended a year ago for financial reasons. Now private sector firms in Uganda and Tanzania have linked under the banner of Infra Investment Limited and bought the shares held by the Tanzanian and Ugandan governments, as well as the 40% stake held by South AfricaÕs Transnet.
Member companies of the Tanzanian Chamber of Commerce and Industry are also involved in the new venture which will provide regular services between Kampala and Nairobi which will also fill the gap left by the liquidation of Uganda Airlines.
Based in Uganda, it will provide twice-a-week services to Johannesburg and Lagos and a weekly flight to Dubai. Services from Uganda to London are also on the cards.
