Everything is on track for a new service between Cape Town and Saint Helena, according to Airlink’s executive manager of cargo, Alwyn Rautenbach. Optimistic about growth for the airfreight sector at large, Rautenbach said the new service would be in addition to the regular scheduled weekly Saturday flight. It is set to commence in December this year. Operated by an Embraer E190 jet, the Tuesday flight from Cape Town International Airport will fly via Walvis Bay International Airport to Saint Helena, adding much-needed airfreight capacity to the market. “Available capacity for the

sectors we are operating is always one of the biggest challenges,” he told FTW. “We have a team that works remarkably well under pressure and we do all it takes to ensure that we provide the best service at all times, despite the challenges we face. Also, we go out of our way to find alternatives where we cannot assist.” Asked about any other markets that offered potential, Rautenbach said Botswana remained an untapped market with the new coal mine that was set to commence operations soon and the lodges that would need to be equipped and stocked.
