Airline targets automotive niche

LTU INTERNATIONAL Airways has launched a concerted drive to grow its cargo volumes. The Cape Town-based company operates one flight a week all year round between Cape Town and Dusseldorf using an A330 200, with capacity for up to 9 tons of cargo. In the peak November to March period it adds a second Dusseldorf flight as well as a Cape Town - Munich option. This year the airline will also operate a weekly Cape Town - Dublin flight every Saturday from October 16 to the second week in April. “We’ve established a lucrative niche in the transport of cars,” says regional manager Petra Clemens, “which we’re able to accept on a floating basis.” Perishables are also a strong market focus. Restructuring of the company has seen LTU Cargo splitting from the passenger side and setting up under the name Leisure Cargo.
