Airline announces Namibia launch date

Flyafrica.com has launched its second airline – Namibia flyafrica - with flights commencing on September 2. The airline is offering low fares between Johannesburg and Windhoek, with one-way tickets starting at R299 per person excluding tax.

Initially planned to start in March this year, flyafrica.com was forced to delay due to legal complications with another carrier. "We have been frustrated and angered that our airline has been dragged through court simply to stop travellers from saving money," says Namibia flyafrica CEO Clifford Strydom.

Such delays saw the new carrier refund over R5 million worth of fares to passengers who had booked early.

Strydom also says that this particular competitive airline “now has real competition”.

Further, flyafrica says that it does not apply a fuel surcharge, as this is just a way for “airlines to hide the true cost of travel”.

The airline will offer three flights a week from Windhoek to Johannesburg, on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays.
