Airfreight sector ready for RCG

The airfreight sector is ready to comply with Reporting on Conveyances and Goods (RCG), SA Revenues Services’ enhanced manifest regulations that come into effect on November 1.

That’s the word from Airlink Cargo executive manager Alwyn Rautenbach who believes it is the most important issue in the industry at the moment. “On the waybill side of things, airlines and clearers have been ready to roll out RCG for a while. We are already reporting electronically.”

This applied to all members of the Air Cargo Operators’ Committee, he said.

However, on the house waybill side “there are still a couple of things that need to be sorted out before the system can go live.

“There are many grey issues surrounding what, who and when that need to be sorted out by freight forwarders.”

He said that Sars had workshopped issues surrounding potential technical glitches with various stakeholders and yet much needed to be done.

“There is a misconception among freight forwarders assuming that airlines and handling companies will also be reporting on house waybill level. We had to call a meeting with them to explain that it’s technically not possible.”
