Aireps gets a foot in express door

WITH THE opening of a joint-venture in SA with the Aireps Group, Linex now has its own operation on every continent - except South America.
The deal has just been signed up by Aireps owner Simon Lavarack and Linehaul Express of Hong Kong.
It means Aireps has a foothold in express/courier transport, he told FTW, which - with an annual growth of 16% - is the fastest growing sector of the air cargo market.
The future, said Lavarack, is time-definite products.
The prediction is that, in six years time, most cargo will be moved on an airport-to-door basis.
The newly launched Linex airport-to-door product, Lavarack added, has already been well-supported by local cargo agents.
It will be the focus of our future development, he told FTW.
The Linex network was formed in 1989 when Linehaul Express was appointed worldwide general sales agent for Cathay Pacific Cargo.
Its subsidiary and joint-venture companies have now developed into a global operation serving 23 countries - and claims to be the largest independent group offering global courier and express freight solutions to airlines, retail courier companies and freight forwarders.
In this market neutrality is the pass-word, according to Lavarack.
The company's neutrality allows Linex to represent airlines without any conflicts of interest; retail couriers to use their own house airbills to provide a global presence of their own; and freight forwarders to serve the express market without losing their own identity.
