Agri SA calls for additional policing ahead of festive season

Agri SA and the Transvaal Agricultural Union (TLU SA) have called on the police to strengthen their efforts to protect the farming community when they do their planning for the festive season through heightened visible policing and by conducting crime-prevention operations.

The organisations said it had been difficult to urge their members to remain calm and refrain from acting irresponsibly in the face of ongoing crime against the farming community continue.

A joint statement said that 53 murders had been recorded this year, compared to 54 last year and warned that this figure could still increase by the end of the year. According to the organisations there have been 383 farm attacks this year, compared to 394 in 2018.
