Logistics and corruption are the two major challenges preventing Africa from playing in the big league, according to an Ernst & Young survey. “Efficient and cost-effective transport and logistics would make a massive change to the continent’s ability to grow its economies faster,” said Michael Lalor, director of strategy and innovation for Ernst & Young’s Africa Business Center. “At the same time corruption also has to be dealt with as it is a reality for anyone doing business here and it is impacting negatively.” Quoting from the World Bank’s Global Logistics Performance Index, he said only four out of 43 African countries were considered to have a “logistics-friendly” environment, while 21 countries were classified as partial performers and some 18 were considered to be “logistically unfriendly”.
