With the current global financial turbulence, the aviation industry is going to take a knock and the Airports Company of SA (Acsa) is already trying to adjust its clothes to match an expectedly thinner future market. In a press statement Acsa said it was down-scaling its investments in expectation of less air travel. But what of its commitment to freight? Is that affected as well? Yes, according to communications manager Solomon Makgale. “With the economic slowdown one would expect that trade between countries would also decline,” he said. This he checked with Acsa’s planning division. “They confirmed that all plans beyond 2010 were under review, including infrastructure requirements for freight,” Makgale said.
