IN THE issue of a new permit system for Johannesburg International Airport (JIA), the SA Association of Freight Forwarders (Saaff) has negotiated an extension. According to Saaff, agreement has been reached with the Airports Company of SA (Acsa) that the August 1 deadline for the withdrawal of existing permits be extended to September 15. “Agents whose permits expire between now and September 15 will not have their permits renewed and will have to resort to issuing letters (on their letterheads) confirming the employment and identity of cargo personnel delivering or collecting goods,” Saaff executive director Chris Richards told FTW. Meanwhile, he added, an alternative permit system is still being investigated.
