Forty thousand rand was raised for charity when the Air Cargo Operators Committee (ACOC) finally held its golf day – a gathering for operators that has become an institution on the industry’s calendar.

Apart from ordinary challenges around putting an event of this size together, there was another hurdle this year – the weather.

Incessant rain meant that the golf day, originally planned for October 27, had to be postponed for the first time in the event’s 20-year history.

Come rain or shine though, you can’t keep a good cause down, and so, still dampened by some downpours in the morning, the golf day finally went ahead on Friday, November 4.

Said the ACOC’s Hayley van Rooyen: “It was a bumper 40 4-ball turnout, said to be the biggest golf day event at Benoni Country Club, with the aim of raising funds for this year’s nominated organisation,  The All Hearts Foundation.

“An amount of R40 000 was gifted to them thanks to the generosity of the air cargo industry and its many diverse stakeholders.”

There was an array of sponsored prizes raffled, amongst them airline tickets, weekend getaway vouchers, shopping vouchers, Pro Shop vouchers, and model aircraft, to name a few.

Chapman Freeborn impressed the field of players, winning the prize for the best activity with their display on the 18th T-box.

This year’s winning team for the day was the Get Your Brand On 4-ball

Next year’s event has already been booked to take place on September 28.
