Aarto high on the agenda at RFA convention

The high-cube container moratorium is one of several topics that will come under the spotlight at the annual Road Freight Association convention to be held from May 27-29 at the Arabella Hotel near Kleinmond in the Western Cape.

Themed “Moment of Truth”, the event will field a high-level speaker line-up that includes Sindisiwe Chikunga, the deputy minister of transport, economist Dennis Dykes, and political analyst Ralph Mathekga.

“More taxes, higher tariffs, heightened corruption, increased pressure to cut costs, labour challenges and prohibitive legislation have become synonymous with the road freight industry,” said RFA CEO Sharmini Naidoo. “The conference will highlight some of the many challenges facing the road freight industry and provide a platform for delegates to address issues at a strategic level.

“Advocate Kevin Hopkins will share his insights on the impact of the Administrative Adjudication of Road Traffic Offences (Aarto) Bill on operators’ constitutional rights,” said Naidoo.

Chris Charter, director and national practice head: competition law at Cliffe Dekker Hoffmeyr, will offer his insights on competition law in light of the Competition Commission increasingly clamping down on companies that contravene the Act.
