39 bodies discovered in truck container in England

39 bodies were discovered in a container in the early hours of Wednesday morning in Essex, England.

A 25-year-old truck driver from Northern Ireland has been arrested on suspicion of murder after 39 bodies were discovered inside a container on an industrial park estate in Essex in the early hours of Wednesday morning.

The truck – which is believed to have come from Bulgaria – was discovered at 1.40am on Wednesday morning, with the North Essex Police Department ensuring the public that an investigation is under way.

“We have arrested the lorry driver in connection with the incident who remains in police custody as our inquiries continue,” said Chief Superintendent Andrew Mariner on Wednesday morning.

“We believe the lorry is from Bulgaria and entered the country at Holyhead on Saturday 19 October and we are working closely with our partners to investigate,” he continued.

This is the second time that the United Kingdom has been hit with a tragedy of this nature. In 2000 58 Chinese immigrants were found suffocated to death in a container on the back of a truck.
