Import Controller

Our client, a well-established logistics and freight forwarding company, is looking for an experienced Import Controller to join their team. This is a hands-on role suited to someone who is confident managing import files from A-Z across both airfreight and seafreight.

The successful candidate will take ownership of the full import process from the opening of the file through to final invoicing, ensuring that shipments are processed accurately, efficiently and in line with customer and company requirements. 

Duties:

• Manage airfreight and seafreight import files from A-Z. Handle the full import process from shipment arrival through to completion.
• Coordinate with shipping lines, airlines, clients, transporters, clearing agents and other relevant stakeholders.
• Monitor shipment documentation and ensure all required documents are received and processed correctly.
• Track shipments and provide clients with regular updates.
• Coordinate customs clearance and delivery arrangements.
• Process and follow up on release documentation.
• Ensure all shipment milestones and relevant information are accurately captured on the system.
• Handle invoicing and ensure files are financially completed accurately and timeously.
• Resolve queries and delays proactively throughout the import process.
• Maintain accurate and up-to-date shipment files and documentation.
• Ensure compliance with internal processes and customer requirements.

Requirements:

• Minimum 3–5 years' experience in an Import Controller role within freight forwarding (non-negotiable).
• The ability to converse professionally in Afrikaans is a huge advantage.
• ShipShape experience (advantageous but not required).
• Strong airfreight and seafreight import experience.
• Proven experience managing files from A-Z.
• Strong understanding of the import forwarding process.
• Experience with invoicing.
