Zuma pins hopes on black industrialists

With over 7 000 new
jobs created in the
manufacturing sector
during the first half
of 2016, the African
National Congress (ANC)
is pinning its hopes on
the government’s Black
Industrialists Programme to
increase the black majority
ownership of South Africa’s
economy.
This was the message
from ANC and SA
president, Jacob Zuma,
when he delivered his
January 8 statement at
the political party’s 105th
anniversary at the Orlando
Stadium in Soweto on
Sunday.
“The manufacturing
sector can be a catalyst
for transforming the
economy and creating
jobs,” Zuma said, pointing
out that township and
rural economies could
particularly benefit from the
Department of Trade and
Industry (dti) programme.
He called on young black
and female entrepreneurs
to take advantage of the
programme initiatives so
that the country could be
turned into a “bustling hub
of industrialisation and
manufacturing”.
