ZIMBABWE AND Mozambique are to sign a trade agreement this month, with emphasis on the promotion of joint ventures along the Beira Corridor.
Zimbabwe's ambassador to Mozambique, Mark Grey Marongwe, says the agreement should be signed within the next two weeks.
Marongwe says South Africa is supreme in business in Mozambique, which he attributes partly to Pretoria's powerful regional export drive. There are only 11 Zimbabwe officials throughout Mozambique while South Africa has 60 in Maputo alone.
Zimbabwe also lacks understanding of the market, says Marongwe.
Zimbabweans were trained in the British way and if any business interaction defies the British style, they consider it wrong and are out of it.
Tight exchange control and export regulations make matters worse, says Marongwe. With South Africa the process is much easier.
