IN ITS drive to ensure schedule integrity in the face of ongoing port congestion, ZIM has restructured and upgraded its East Africa service. Effective this month it will operate three vessels on a 10-day frequency calling Durban - Mombasa - Djibouti - Mombasa - Durban, with a round trip of approximately 3 0 days. The port of Dar Es Salaam will be served via Durban using a feeder vessel, the Express Kilimanjaro, which will also call at the ports of Nacala and Beira for cargo to/from Mozambique. The feeder will offer a three-day transit time between Durban and Dar-es-Salaam, with a frequency of 15 days calling Durban - Dar Es Salaam - Nacala/Beira - Durban. “By putting on the feeder we’ll still be able to serve the Dar es Salaam market and also service Beira and Nacala on an alternate voyage basis,” ZIM Integrated Shipping Services marketing manager Natasha Jackson told FTW. The port of Djibouti functions as a relay hub for cargoes from Asia, Europe, the Mediterranean and America, by connecting to ZIM’s network through the Far East Mediterranean Express Service (FMX).
