ZacPak Durban in full operation

ZacPak Durban – CFR Freight’s container freight station (cfs) – is now 100% operational since opening in December 2012, and in July/August this year will extend the warehouse capacity by 4 500 sqm. “When we opened the facility on December 2012, exports were first on the list, followed by imports in March this year. We are now fully operational to handle all of CFR Freight’s business,” said ZacPak director Peter Schmidt-Löffler. The decision to open a Durban depot was taken following the success of the Cape Town operation which has been up and running since 2009. A depot in Johannesburg is also on the cards, he said. He told FTW that the company had invested in a “state-of-the-art” de-grouping and depot warehouse management system that allows for step-by-step communication throughout the import, unpack and release process. Schmidt-Löffler stressed that ZacPak offered its services to the clearing and forwarding industry only, making the depots the only truly neutral unpack depots in South Africa. “We do not want to compete with our clients, we are here to assist them in completing their service offerings to the importer and exporter,” he said. The expansion of the Durban warehouse will offer the Johannesburg and Durban market a cross-dock facility. The company is also in the process of applying for an SOS and OS bond facility.
