There’s heightened interest in mining in Africa, with investment from global players set to increase, according to Edrich Koen, senior business development manager for mining in Africa at DSV South Africa.Koen told Freight News this was due to the demand for valuable commodities found on the continent.“The increased activity experienced in this sector has created new employment opportunities, with a specific focus on local employment in communities within close proximity to a mine,” he said.He added that DSV, with more than 20 years of experience in transport and logistics services to the mining and minerals sector, was bullish about the outlook for the sector, especially in light of the heightened interest and investment.“A key focus area observed in the mining and minerals sector in South Africa is the implementation of an Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) strategy due to the increased global attention on these matters,” said Koen. “The shift toward more sustainable business practices requires service providers that are aligned and able to support organisations operating in the mining and minerals sector attain their ESG goals.”
