‘Work proceeding for vital Swazi rail link’

MBABANE –SA High Commissioner to Swaziland, Mabuse Mampane, gave assurances last week to Swaziland government transportation authorities and private investors that work was proceeding on the new cross-border rail line linking Lothair in Mpumalanga with the Sidvokodvo junction in central Swaziland. “Work will commence in 2013,” Mampane told a group of high-profile public and private sector executives at the Matsapha Industrial Estate. Little has been heard of the new rail line since its announcement in January. The line is one of the key missing pieces needed to be put in place to achieve non-stop rail service from Gauteng to Maputo via Swaziland, lessening the distance now travelled by going around the country.
