Ray Smuts NEDERBURG ESTATE'S already enviable reputation for fine wine is to be further enhanced globally with the announcement that Distell is to spend R67 million on a cellar expansion programme. Distell's corporate affairs manager Andre Steyn makes the point that Stellenbosch Farmers' Winery, owner of Nederburg, would not have had the financial resources to undertake a project of this magnitude which has come about following SFW's merger with Distillers Corporation. Steyn says the project will take the brand into the "big league" as a global player with a range of fine varietal wines and red blends for the premium and super-premium end of the market. To establish its international positioning more firmly, the brand, due for release next year, is being repackaged to present a more contemporary face while signalling an even higher quality standing.
