The world’s largest ship, the 18 270-TEU Maersk Mc-Kinney Møller, recently embarked on her maiden voyage from Busan port (pictured here) in South Korea en route to Rotterdam. Deployed on the Asia-Europe route, she is the first of 20 such vessels to be delivered to Maersk Line between now and 2015. The industry is keeping a close watch on the impact on capacity – and South Africa is not immune as vessels are cascaded to make way for these leviathans. Are our ports ready?
