The rehabilitation of sections of the R60 and R62 between Ashton and Montagu through Cogmanskloof is back on after the Western Cape Department of Transport and Public Works appointed a new contractor.
The project was suspended last year following when the contractor, Basil Read, went into business rescue. Spokesperson for the department, Byron la Hoe, said Haw & Inglis had submitted the winning bid after another tender was put out.
“Critical work on Ashton Bridge relating to the pre-stressing of the arch tie-beams and the new bridge deck must be completed before Haw & Inglis can officially start as the new main contractor,” he said. This is expected to be complete by April this year.
“The contract will commence on 1 April 2019, and the works under this new contract are expected to be complete in February 2021,” said La Hoe.
