The development of an air cargo strategy for the Western Cape is progressing well. FTW recently reported on the need for such a strategy, considering that air freight out of Cape Town International Airport grew by 52% in 2017. According to David King, project manager for the Cape Town Air Access Initiative at Wesgro, the strategy that is currently being drawn up will promote the airport as a gateway for air cargo services in the province. “Our intention is not to compete with the established air cargo sectors at the international airports in Johannesburg or Durban, but to grow the market in Cape Town, which has a range of export products that can be boosted by more air connectivity to its international markets,” he said
