TNT INTERNATIONAL Express has launched its new Wireless Application Protocol (WAP) tracking facility which enables all customers with a WAP-enabled cellphone or device to track their international consignments whenever and wherever they want.
Customers can check instantly both the status, either in transit or arrived, and location of their consignment, using either a TNT consignment number or their own tracking reference. In addition customers can also view the date and time of the pick-up or delivery and the name of the person who signed for the shipment. The facility is available in any country whose telecommunications networks support the WAP standard.
With industry analysts predicting that 50% of mobile users will access internet services by 2010, a facility of this nature will become an essential tool to access information on international consignments, says Steven Matthews, TNT's development manager.
With WAP tracking we have harnessed the very latest in mobile technology to bring customers yet another channel to access information about their consignment, he says.
We will be looking to expand on this service in the future, with possible developments such as the introduction of a price checking and booking facility as well as other sophisticated information services.
